A friend is having problems starting his PC, everytime he switches on it will start as any windows pc will. But as soon as it starts to load windows xp(you see the xp logo for about 2
seconds)it then goes to a blue screen with the following message:- Coooo221 Unknown Hard Error\System Root\System 32\ntdll.dll.

He has tried starting in safe mode. Last known good start and safe mode with prompt, all return to the same message.

He has also down loaded a start up disk for Microsoft for xp but it locks up on the second disk with a error saying code 7.

Can anyone throw any light on this problem.

Thanks in advance.

ntdll.dll is part of Windows and this or some other essential Windows element has probably become damaged. click here provides some useful information about how to repair Windows XP.

If all else fails, its time to get radical. Insert your installation disc and allow it to run a repair - and it that fails allow it to reinstall over the top - and if that fails I'm afraid you mayu have to consider formatting your hard disc and reinstalling WIndows from scratch.
