I am using Windows XP and when I go to the control panel to add/remove programs I get a lot of these messages followed by a code. What are they and should I remove them via the remove option?

No - those are Windows updates that you've downloaded from MS

Well they are what they say they are, there updates. Leave them be or you will have to re-download them.

No leave then there. They are "Fixes" or "Patches" that have been downloaded from Microsoft to your PC.

Each one is an update to your operating system to fix a potential problem or guard against one occurring. j.
