Windows XP Home & 'kernel-stack-inpage-error'

When attempting to defrag HDD (only 1 installed) under Windows XP Home the system hangs and a B.S.O.D appears with the message: 'kernel-stack-inpage-error'.
A search of the internet - including Microsoft's Knowledge Base - has revealed nothing beyond 'hardware failure, virus, or bad RAM' as an explanation of this error message.
Do you know what it means, and how it can be resolved?
Many thanks.

Bad Ram was the first thought I had on reading the title....

But try Diskeeper Lite click here its a much more advanced defragmation toolthan that shipped with XP.
