Windows XP Find Files - different to Windows 2000?

Strange one this one....

I have an XP Pro machine with some files with the extension *.msg. If I search the folder these files are in for files containing a specific piece of text it returns no matches.

If I do the exact same search on the same folder on a windows 2000 machine it finds the matching files.

If on the XP Pro machine I rename the files to have a *.txt extension then it finds the matching files.

Am I doing something wrong?
Is there a secret setting to allow files to be searched within if they don't have a txt extension.

The files are just plain text files.

Look forward to someones comments on this one!
