When I explore this particular sub-folder, the explorer crashes and asks me if i want to send error report to which i say YES but nothing comes back to me with any suggestions as to why it crashes.

This problem is NOT occuring with any other sub-folders.

The error file has, part of it included::
?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?>
MATCHING_FILE NAME="ADVAPI32.DLL" SIZE="616960" CHECKSUM="0x8E9BCF02" BIN_FILE_VERSION="5.1.2600.2180" BIN_PRODUCT_VERSION="5.1.2600.2180" PRODUCT_VERSION="5.1.2600.2180" FILE_DESCRIPTION="Advanced Windows 32 Base API" COMPANY_NAME="Microsoft Corporation" PRODUCT_NAME="Microsoft® Windows® Operating System" FILE_VERSION="5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)" ORIGINAL_FILENAME="advapi32.dll" INTERNAL_NAME="advapi32.dll" LEGAL_COPYRIGHT="© Microsoft Corporation. "asks me if i want to send error report to which i say YES but nothing comes back to me with any suggestions as to why it crashes".

What are you expecting to 'come back' and from where??

The process you are going through is to send a report to Microsoft to provide information to them.

Nothing more than that.

tutorial for System File Checker (sfc.exe) click here

don't bother sending a report to Microsoft, it won't help you, I don't know of anyone who has had a reply...

I have run the sfc.exe program and ran , i think o.k. as there were no messages on completion.

I have rebooted the pc and so far the problem has not resurfaced.

Thanks all for the help.
