when i boot up and go on tut t'internet, i ALWAYS have to go into wireless network connection, change firewall...and then i find that the firewall is turned OFF. i keep forgetting this as i turn on 'net and start downloading stuff. i can't find a way of turning firewall on and KEEPING it on. please help as i am thick as two short planks when it comes to computers!

Windows firewall is somewhat lacking - it is inbound only.

You would be better off installing a good free firewall like Zone Alarm click here

Both VoG and woodchip have very valid points, and I agree with them. I have Norton firewall 2k6 on mine and it keeps me nice and safe. However if having another firewall is not an option then this is how to keep the windows one turned on.


Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Windows Firewall

In the new screen just click "Turn on Windows Firewall" and then it will be on.

For future refernce the same applies to turning it off again should you wish to use a third party firewall.
