windows xp and Acronis

A friend of mine has just bought a new base system (ie just the box) it has no operating system on it but he has a legitimate copy of xp to install on it. He has backed up his complete system on his old pc with Acronis to an external hard drive, but his old pc does not have a genuine copy of xp. The question is can he install the genuine copy of xp on his new pc and then restore his drive image copy from his old pc on the external drive to his new pc
sorry for being a bit long winded.
any help would be appreciated thanks

He cannot load it to is new computer as drivers are for the old computer, also he will not get it use it as MS will only allow it on one PC. But he can get a oem from click here

What your friend needs to do is this:

Install XP on the new PC by booting with the XP CD.

Run windows update and ensure that everything is up to date.

Install the programs he wants on the new PC.

Copy data from old PC to new PC via an external drive.

He cannot create an image of the old PC to install on the new PC as it will have different hardware.
