hi
my new pc is nearly built and im installing windows xp home edition. my mates has a download of the operating system and said he can put it on a cd for me and give me a registration code for it and will work all the same. ineed to know

1)can this be done this way
&
2) is it against the law

It might work but you wouldn't be able to get any updates and do you really need to ask if its illegal? Of course it is.

yes you can put your mates xp disk on your computer
but you can not register it as far as i know
and you will not get updates from microsoft
