i have installed windows service pack2 but i want to install windows xp pro without removing anything except the current operating sytem but it says that the version on the disc is older than the one on the computer.

This is probably true since you installed SP2. I think you have to uninstall SP2 and then try XP Pro. I assume you are starting with the Home edition installed?

I have 43 services present on my computer. At this point in time my computer does boot rather quickly after making an adjustment to the prefetch in the registry editor from 3 to 2. I would like to hear anybodys opinion on what services are not really required to run. Thank-you all for both your time and patience in this matter.
