I have just reinstalled XP + SP1 and find it quite daunting when i look at the suggested list of critical & Recommended updates. Is it best to let windows update do it automaticaly or should i be a bit more selective. If so, are there any which have give any known problems.
look forward to some advice.

critical updates usualy relate to security issues so i would advise installing them recomended you can take them or leave them they are not essential

Easy - Install 'em all...

But not all of them is needed. It's a case of reading what MS say on the update and you can then decide if you need it.
