Windows Update problem

I have a problem with windows updates. For the past couple of days when I shut down I have the option to install updates or shut down without installing.

If I click to install it says installing 1 of 65 updates then it just shuts down as usual.

Earlier tonight I got the yellow icon on the taskbar informing me I had updates to install I choose a custom install so I could see what was happening.

It gave me a list of updates that were waiting to be installed but when I clicked to install after a few minutes the same list came up but with the message that the following updates could not be installed. Anyone any ideas?

I d/loaded and ran the app VoG™ linked to unfortunaly due to the fact I had to make some descisions as the app ran it messed up my system.

I couldn't open IE or outlook express tried system restore and just a blank window opened, so I just did an XP repair, sorted out the glitches not sure about the update problem will keep you posted.
