Windows Update Problem

I am having problems with the latest update for Windows XP - Direct X 819696. It downloads and then installs - the message comes that it has installed correctly but a few seconds later up pops the download icon. I have tried several times but seem to be going round in circles. I haven't had this problem with other updates.

See:

First seen in July 2003, it's only for DirectX up to 9a (9b in certain instances) and another patch was issued for DirectX8 in August last year, which may explain the confusion - in any case DirectX9c has been out for a little while now.

There are updates for different Windows operating systems.

Appreciate that Stuartli but how do I get rid of the irritating update icon - clicking on cancel, or any other option doesn't seem to do the trick.

Found the solution by accident - instead of clicking on cancel I clicked close which gave me the option of choosing not to be reminded of this update again. I guess Windows knows it doesn't really need it.
