Windows Update Fails/BITS problem

  theresnogoodnamesleft 23:41 27 Dec 09

I have windows 7 home premium on a new acer aspire 5542 laptop.

I tried running windows update today, it finds 37 updates but can't install any at all, I recieve windows update error 80246008.

In the help section it suggests editing "background intelligent transfer service" in the administrative tools/services function, but BITS isn't listed in my services.

As the laptop is brand new I'm not sure why it isn't there, or how it became lost, but apparently I need it to get windows updates and was wondering if anyone could help me fix it?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice :)
