Windows Update - Auto switched off

  chelseafan 20:55 17 Oct 05

Over the past couple of days the yellow windows update icon has appeared several times and states, as usual, "Downloading Updates X%". As I'm on a dial-up connection this takes some time and does the usual update routine when I shut down. Because this slows my connection down i changed the setting to tell me when an update was available and then I would a choose a convenient time to download it. The problem hasn't been solved. The yellow icon still appears, as it has just done so, and takes an age to download the update. Whilst doing so i am not able to cancel it other than shut down my PC. Is this normal?

I have found the same occurence. I swapped to full manual updates a long time ago. It's better that way.

Switch it off, Do it Manual. By going to Start Windows Updates

Thanks for your replies. I'll switch to manual as suggested.
