Does Windows update need internet explorer installed these days? In the past I thought they were integral to one another but this thread says not:

Widows7 will not have IE installed - and seemingly can run Windows Update without it - see this previous thread:

but as far as I know with an earlier OS you need IE - or a special add-on for other browsers.

With Windows7 you can download a browser, and here's how to do it without using a browser!

“Widows7 will not have IE installed”

Just download IE8, Firefox, etc and save to a flash drive before installing Win7

Thanks; that's what I was wondering about.

I'm likely to install both IE and FireFox anyway but did wonder about how I might run Windows Update.
