Windows Support Scam?

I have just had a phone call from 'Windows Support' sounding like an Indian call centre, to say my computer is reporting problems. Out of interest I decided to see where this led. I was taken through to a log listing a string of warnings. I was told to see if I could delete any item - which I couldn't. This was apparently because the machine had a virus. I was told I needed to hand control to the caller to fix the problem.

At this point I rang off. I presume this was a scam, but it seemed very complicated. Has anyone else come across this?

Went through a spell of a few weeks getting similar calls, sometimes two a day.

Just put your best voice on and say...

"Thank you so much, I'll have a number 27 with rice and poppadoms... thank you so much, oh and by the way, I now have an exact satellite GPS location on you"

They soon hang up.
