Windows Startup And Shutdown Slowdown

Im back :) Well what can i say 2 reinstalls later and the probles just seem to get even worse! In addition to windows arsing around for about 5 mins and repeated atempts to get it to shut down it is now taking forever to boot up with the screen going black for about 30 secs after the windows loading bar whith no sign of any hd activity. The same install discs and patches have been used on my bros pc and laptop and none of the probs have been experianced. Is it the pc is just wearing out or summin cause i have done evrything i no and everything suggested on here to try to get it going quick again but nothing it working?

i did have norton on the system. i have found out what the prob is now. it turned out it was starforce copy protection drivers on one of the games i had which was messing it up. i removed the drives and the prob is now resolved but the system still goes real slow when rendering grafics for some reson.
