i checked thru bios, giving a cpu temp of 46c.

but windows keeps informing me its saving settings and shutting down.

i've already tried a clean reinstall incase of virus etc.

Maybe your system is attempting to save something that is malfunctioning. Try system restore.

""i've already tried a clean reinstall""

Was the reinstall completed sucessfully?

The ram memory may be at fault, take them out and reseat them back in (they can sometimes work loose by themselves due to expansion and contraction)

To test for a faulty stick - if it still happens - then try with only one stick of ram in and if that is okay then put next one in and see if it is still okay.

Have you cleaned all the dust out of the fans etc?

Check Power Settings in Control Panel, Set to Never turn Off

lotvic, the reinstall went fine, loaded wifi and avg,
also intalled sp2. i've reinstalled the ram stick, but recylce time gets shorter.

woodchip, do you mean power options, then yes is set to never turn off.

i'm begining to suspect overheating as unit is running for a shorter and shorter period, could be the wierd heatsink fitted...

many thanks for responding guys.
