Windows Setup

My Pentium 111, Win98SE computer has lots of problems which I suspect are due to corrupt/missing system files. I have the Win98SE CD. Suppose I run setup from this CD on the computer, will the problems disappear? And, what will happen to my programs and data on the hdd after running setup? Please help. Thanx in advance.

CD in the tray. Go Start > Run, and type in sfc. This will start the System File Checker which should sort corrupt / damaged system files

You would do better by going to start-run and type sfc in the box. Then press enter.

Make sure you have your windows c\d in the drive. This will check for lost files without a reinstall.

This just may do the trick?

If you re-install win98se you will probably cure a lot of problems. Your programs and data will not be affected as long as you do not format the drive.

However why not try the system file checker first.

START - RUN - SFC might solve your problem a lot quicker.
