windows password

A friend who is in Spain is having problems with his logon password in that it is not recognising it. He has checked that caps lock is not on but still unable to log on to his laptop. His wife can log on to her account, but unfortunately is not an admin. Is there anyway of bypassing the password logon so he can reset the password.

If using XP/

Tel him to start the computer in safe mode,

They may be a virgin {No pass word} Admin account there he can log in as a Admin and then change he pass word,

Reboot into SAFE MODE

1/Click Start and then click Turn Off Computer.
2/In the Turn Off Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.
3/As your computer restarts but before Windows launches, press F8 repeatedly.
4/Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.
5/If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.
Note: If Windows launches before you can choose a safe mode, restart your computer and try again,

It would seem that it is more of a profile problem...if he tries to log on using his known password, it says unable to load profile, but if he puts in a wrong password it says that the password is wrong?

He could try creating a new admin user profile, and then logging in under that. If all works well then he can delete the old profile. Instructions as follows
