Windows Movie Maker- audio mix?

Is it possible in WMM to add a sound effect (in my case an explosion) over the existing audio track (and not just cut in which is all I can get at the moment)?

Yes. 1 Capture Video. Import Audio or Music select your sound in wav format and simply drop it onto the time line. Right clicking on the sound on the time line brings up an option to adjust the volume of your sound. It will play over the clip sound track.
