Windows media player / winamp problem

I have a number of music files that I wish to open with Windows Media Player. I have right clicked, chosen 'open with...' and selected WMPLAYER from the list (yellow square, blue triangle icon) but it still tries to open them with Winamp instead. I have even tried uninstalling Winamp but it just throws up "cannot find winamp3.exe....." I have even browsed to the folder with WMP.exe and picked that but all it has done is added another WMP icon to the list.

Help !

Just spotted my reply to Estel's thread about WMP to winamp. Funny it isn't working if I try winamp to WMP myself.
