Windows Media Player rejected!

  Sapins 15:00 20 Mar 05

I have XP Home installed and I have downloaded Windows Media Player 10.0. When I try to install it I'm told " This version of Windows Media Technology is incompatible with this version of Windows" I also get this message if I try to install Version 9.0

How can Microsoft reject it's own software for one of it's own OS?

Hi VoG™

Thanks for your reply, I have just copied the file wmploc.dll from my XP CD to F:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32. I'm afraid it didn't work.

click here and scroll down. Seems a bit drastic but...

If I choose Repair will it change anything? I don't want to mess anything up just to install Media Player!

Repair will be fine but you will need to install SP2 again.

What about critical updates, will I have to get them again?

  VoG II 16:04 20 Mar 05

Yes if not included in SP2.

OK. I'll decide later if I do a repair, time to watch the footy.

Thanks very much for your help, much appreciated,

Owe you an apology, I should not have tried to copy the file from the CD.

I have just followed your first link to the letter and it worked a treat. Thanks for your help,
