Windows Media Player - No Audio

Wierd fault on my WMP. I installed an AverMedia Digital TV card which didn't work. I updated the software from their web-site and it still didn't work! However, I discovered that this new version had disabled the audio from WMP, but ONLY on DVD playback. On un-installing the s/ware, the audio returned. I then E-mailed the company's office over here and they sent me the link to a yet later s/ware version. I installed this, it still doesn't work. But even after un-installing, I still have no audio on DVDs. I've now completely removed the card and I've tried everything, but I cannot even get System Restore to work. Any ideas please ???
