Windows Media Player - Media Library problem

I have just ripped my entire cd collection (approx 8000 tracks)to my usb had drive. I have told WMP to search for media files so that it can set up the media library, and told it where they are. Its found them all, however it seems to have duplicated about 75% of the tracks. When I sort the albums by artist, each track appears between 2 and 4 times. Its also the same if I sort by album name. I know for a fact that weach track is only on the drive once.

How can I correct this, or is there a better way or program to use to keep track of things??

I am running Windows 2000 and WMP 9.

OK then, can anyone recommend an alternative to Windows Media Player to organise a music collection of WMA's?

I use WMP 10 and find it very good, you could try downloading the latest version 10 and trying again.Delete all the files and start again, make sure you only tick the box to delete from library only,(NOT THE BOX DELETE FROM LIBRARY AND MY COMPUTER) or you will lose all your files.Paddy

Thanks Paddy, but I didn't think WMP10 would work on W2000?
