Windows Media Player with audio books

I am wanting to use the above program to rip audio books and then they can go into my windows library and then import the folder using itunes for my ipod. I don't want to use itunes to import the audio cd and make an itunes media folder because it gets into such a mess when importing onto ipod. The problem I have with windows media is that unlike itunes I can't seem to be able to join the audio tracks together before ripping. So they are coming out as an ordinary audio cd. With itunes you can combine the tracks together to make one track. Can you do this with windows media or is there a program I can use to do this.
