A real pain, often wmp will not play downloaded music or video files. It gives the impression it is connecting then nothing happens no matter how long I wait. It takes several reboots then it will suddenly be OK.I have a fast broadband connection
I am running windows 98 SE
Zone Alarm Pro (firewall)
AVG 7.1 Professional(antivirus)
Counterspy 1.5 (spyware)

Thanks in anticipation of your help

download and upgrade to WMP 10. You can get it from Microsoft's website.

WMP10 is XP + only. Have you tried playing the files in boring old MediaPlayer2, which you should find in C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\ called mplayer2.exe - just to check if it's a codec problem or something. Try uninstalling WMP9 if you can, run a registry cleaner, and then reinstall it. Great regcleaner here click here
