Try a system restore and forget about the update unless its absolutely necessary

there doesn't seem to be anything in files types to change only advanced button

My Computer>Explore>highlight and then right click your CD drive(s)>Properties>AutoPlay tab. Set to open with or Prompt as required.

I've always used the Select All option in WMP's File Types tab.

You can also use Windows TweakUI/PowerTools AutoPlay option as well if you have this utility.
