windows media player 10

There are lots of threads on media players but I cannot find any solution to my problem there. Just recently my media player has started juttering after 1 or 2 tracks, then hangs and the CPU shows 100% usage, I've tried everything I can think of eg: increasing the paging file, running at 32bit graphics, closing down all non essential processes's etc.
Anyone any further suggestions.....
Running WMP 10 on XP Pro

this could have any one of a dozen causes. One way to eliminate WMP as the guilty candidate is to try another player - see what happens. If you get the same problem we can explore some possibilities.
