Trawled the archives - thought I had found the problem when someone explained that DirectX acceleration was the problem. Did not help me. Its only sound from DVDs that's missing. CDs, radio, windows bleeps are all loud and clear. Any ideas please?

Do you have a DVD hardware or software decoder?

Also that DVD is enabled from WMP's Tools>File Types?

stuartli. DVD is ticked as enabled. Don't have any additional software as I thought that's what the media player was for ?!
