Windows Media Centre Issues

Been having a couple of problems on two laptops installing Win XP MC.

Everything seems to work fine until I install the MC 2005 update disk that comes with the pack. When I restart the computer after installation the hard drive (and optical for that matter) seem to be corrupt. I thought it might have been the hard drive that was at fault, but I had gotten through the entire installation then installed a wedge of software before doing the update. Besides, one of the HDDs was brand new.

Any ideas? Is the update responsible?

try not using the update disk - just do the initial install and then visit the web site to see if there is a newer update.
