Windows Media Centre freezes and PC Crashes

My son's PC runs Vista with an AMD dual core 4200+ processor and 1Gb of RAM.
A few months ago I bought him a Peak digital PCI video card so that he could watch live TV. At first it worked fine - we live in a high signal strength area and he was able to view all the usual freeview channels.
Recently, a problem has started; whenever he launches a live TV programme in Media Centre, it plays OK for about 5 seconds, then the video freezes, the whole PC crashes and can only be corrected with a restart.
The TV signal strength is fine and device manager says the TV card is working OK with up to date drivers.
Does anyone have an idea s to what might be causing this ? - the system has not been modified in any way since it was working fine some weeks ago.

Hi MCE2K5,
