Windows ME boot problem

  Chelonian 15:35 04 Jul 05

My PC running Windows ME has suddenly started displaying this message on boot up:

CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please recheck - CPU SOFT MENU. Press F1 to continue.

When I press F1 the PC finishes booting up and operates quite normally. I haven't made any changes to the PC other than recently disconnecting it from its mains power supply during recent thunder storms. Could the problem be related to a flat CMOS battery?

Any help or advice much appreciated. Thanks!
