Windows ME

A friend started to upgrade his copy of XP but didn't complete the upgrade and he is unable to do so.

ME still works - sort of. If he runs the ME disk from windows to reinstall, will it just re-install the necesdsary files or will he lose his saved files already on his HDD???

I thinbk it will depend upin what state the aborted upgraded left things in. He might be able to do a Repair of WinME, then he might not. Best to assume the worst and secure any wanted files off the HDD (e.g. by putting HDD into a nother machine as 2nd drive) before proceeding.

Alternatively, just buy a 2nd HDD for existing machine and install ME (or XP) to that (as long as its not a laptop).

Thanks Batch

His CPU is really old, I've told him he could do with a new one which he has agree so I'll back up his files and copy them to his new PC.
