Windows Mail folder refresh

I have an account set up in Windows Mail. It works fine - except that the folders on the left hand side don't refresh with up to date information until I close and re-open the program.
For example, I click on an unread email, it opens in the preview pane and goes from bold to normal - but the little '1' next to 'Inbox' doesn't go away. The same happens when sending mail, it goes to the outbox and will only ackknowledge that it has gone when closing the program and re-opening it.
Any ideas?

I can't answer your specific question, but my wife used to use Windows Mail as her email client. She had all kinds of problems with it.

She now uses Windows Live Mail, and finds it a big improvement. To download it free click here.

You'll find that all of your Windows Mail folders are compatible with it.
