Windows login problem

  Doire_Bhoy 08:37 02 Feb 06

Running XP.

On login a Windows Explorer error occurs as a continual cycle of appearing dialogue boxes.

The pc can boot into SAFE MODE.

Any fixes for this?

Hi ,
When i log in a MS geberated error occurs. It concerns Data Execution Prevention.

The mesaage says an error occured in Windows Explorer and the pc will now close.

Everytime i login this message pops up and i cant use the pc.

Any ideas?

Have you tried pressing F8 while booting up and selecting "last known good configuration"
or if you can boot up in safe mode try system restore..

Data Execution Prevention

Oops - sorry I had a "senior moment" and pressed the wrong button.

Do you have Norton Ghost? I seem to remember an issue with Data Execution Prevention which requires a work-around.

It was indeed Data Execution Prevention.

In most cases when this happens Microsoft states that it would be bestfor the user to look for an update for the problem software.

However as the error concerns "Windows Explorer" i only have one option and this is to disbale Data Execution Prevention for "Windows Explorer".

I dont think this harms WE....or could i be wrong?

I think that because Windows Explorer is the core of the Windows OS, this may not necessarily be WE related. As you can boot into Safe Mode, try disabling startup processes in msconfig (Start - Run - msconfig - Startup tab) to see if anything there points to the cause.
