Windows Live Messenger

I recently opened Windows Live Messenger, and the addon that I have installed, Messenger Discovery said an update was required. I clicked yes to this, the update started, but didnt install correctly.
This also meant that windows live messnger would stop working whenever i opened it.
I uninstalled both messenger and discovery, but now when i try to reinstall windows live package, all i ever get is an unknown error saying, "programs could not be downloaded".
This is really starting to frustate me now as there seems to be no way to re-download the programs.
Any help??

Go to Windows Update and initiate a search. Hopefully someone with a bit more savvy will answer this in a better manner.
I always delete Messenger.

As a general rule, run a registry cleaner after an uninstall. click here

Or use an uninstaller like Revo Uninstaller which carries out it's own registry clean. click here

By not doing so, an attempted reinstall of Messenger will not necessarily be on a fresh install basis if you get what I mean.
