Windows Live Messenger

I have just upgraded? to Messenger Live from the previous version.
I have always used that with my existing email address ( only have one) without any problems.
A friend has asked me to send him my hotmail email contact so that he can add me to his 'allowed' list. Before I go through all the business of getting one could someone advise if that is a requirement or just beneficial? His normal address is 'ntl'. My 'Live' version still signs me in automatically as usual with my existing address.

Spark6.Thanks. I also wonder if I do, will Messenger Live only recognise that address or will I still also be accessible via my usual one. Don't want to complicate things!
