Windows Installer Problem in XP Home...any advice?

  Watdoc2 14:42 12 Nov 03

I'm well and truly b*g**d - while attempting to install Norton Internet Security 2004 (I know, I should have got another program, but it's no wtoo late) my Norton Antivirus 2003 was uninstalled happily, but the installation failed due to "Error 1722" which apparently is due to a problem with my Window Installer application. Now I have no protection at all for my home system which is soon to be connected to ADSL.

Do I try and repair Windows XP? (difficult with OEM system and no media!)
Do I attempt system recovery with HP recovery utility?
Do I restore system using image file made with Norton Ghost?

Any option condemns me to many hours of heartache - the installation, the webfixes and upgrades etc. What do you think is the best bet?

I foresee marital discord later this week - full system restore is only option according to the nice man at HP!
