Windows Firewall switches itself off

  montyburns 19:34 11 Aug 05

Running XP with SP2 on a Toshiba laptop.

Every time I boot up, Firewall has switched itself off (or appears to have done) I switch it back on and the same happens again...

What's going on??!?!

Are you running ZoneAlarm or another firewall? These will switch the XP Firewall off (and do a better job usually).

Nope, just the ordinary vanill Windows Firewall..

do you have an anti virus? If so run it.

Also I'd recommend you install Zone Alarm or Sygate firewall, they are BOTH FREE.

Doing the antivirus stuff, no problem

PC and laptop both connected to BB via wireless router, and both on XP with SP2. PC is not throwing off the settings for firewall, but laptop is...

I'm sure I read somewhere that there's an issue where sometimes firewall is on but appears off....?

Start, Run, type in

and click OK.

Scroll down to Security Center, double click it, and check that Startup is set to Automatic.

Do the same with Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing.
