  dustbin 20:13 26 Aug 04

My friend has a problem, every time he boots up he gets an error message saying explorer has a fault and must shut down.Nothing else will work but when you boot in safe mode you get no error message and everything seems to be OK.
Any suggestions?

Which version of Windows?

In Safe Mode, Start, Run, type in

and click OK. Have Windows CD to hand.

Sorry don't have the CD.

Any Windows 98 CD would do.

A couple of other suggestions.

1 Start, Shutdown, Restart, Restart in MS-DOS mode. At the > prompt type

scanreg /restore

and press the Enter key. You should be presented with a list of dates - pick one before the problem appeared.

2 Start, Run, type in

and click OK. Look on the Startup tab and untick "unwanted" programs to stop them loading at start-up. For a list of startup programs click here

Thank you I will give these a try and see what happens.

Sorry I don't think these will work as I cannot access anything,I click the OK box and everything resets and the error message just pops up again.
If I was to copy Explorer.exe from my computer to his,do you think this might clear it?
