windows explorer prob

I'm using win 98se on a second hand laptop. I can't get the windows explorer window to stay maximised after I shut down windows and reboot. All other folders seem to remember their settings after shut down. Tried unchecking then checking "remember each folders view settings" under folder options, but no joy. Is there a registry tweak that might solve this. Realise that it's no big deal but it's really, really annoying !!

Have you tried stretching the window manually? using your mouse hover the cursor over the edge of the window and arrows appearer enabling you to stretch horizontal and ,your settings should stay like that.
