Windows Explorer and network drives

I have a freecom network drive where I like to store my photos. I was trying to edit some, eg (rotate them) to put on a digital photo frame, but although it sometimes actually does rotate, immediately after, windows explorer say there is and closes then restarts. there is loads of suggestions on the web but none seems to work. I have NO viruses or malware or anything on my computer. They edit ok if I put the photos on to my laptop, but the idea of the drive is for each of our computers to use this network drive. I have checked permissions and although I am no expert I think they are ok. Microsoft have been very helpful and are ringing me back tomorrow for me to talk to a second level technician, the first one i was on the phone to for 3 hours today at there cost!! I was wondering if anyone had come across the same problem. I use Kaspersky Internet Security if that helps.
