Windows Explorer Catch 22

  Pesala 09:44 08 Feb 09

I had a problem with Windows Explorer not responding after copying some files from a USB drive to my hard disk, so I terminated Windows Explorer from Windows Task Manager (Ctrl Alt Delete).

So how are you supposed to restart Windows Explorer? Windows Start bar is not available, and the Windows Run command (WinKey R) is not available (Windows XP Home)

I was able to extricate myself from this situation as I had Opera running, and I can use a Run command from there, but if that was not available, how would you restart Windows Explorer without rebooting?

In task manager, under Applications tab click on new task and type explorer.exe .

That's good. I thought there should be some solution.

There are quite a lot of functions in Windows Task Manager that not many users know about.

New task (run) is also available from the File menu in task manager.

One can also change the Task Manager options so that it is not always on top.
