Windows Explorer

Our elderly neighbour whom we help from time to time, took his PC to a local shop for a bit of a cleanup etc. He will click on buttons in quick succession and it had got beyond our help. However his camera is not now recognized so we tried to install the Kodak drivers and software again. It had been giving problems so the shop had removed it. The installation says it's finished but there is nothing there and when you try to look in Explorer at the programme files as soon as you click on the c/ drive the contents of the window continually jump and flicker so there is no way anything can be opened. He's taken it to be looked at again but has anyone any idea what would cause it. OS is XP Pentium 4 around 1800 I think. and he also had the ram upped to 512mb but it seems very slow.

I would have a look at the grahics card drivers.

Thanks for advice, will pass it on but would this cause problems in W/Explorer when all else is stable.

May be a corrupt file

Type sfc /scannow (note space between c and /) in the run box sit back as windows scans for and replaces missing / corrupt system files, may ask for XP disk to be in drive.

He's gone back to the shop as other things not working, pictures won't download from camera etc.
