Windows error messages keep closing my pc

Hello, when I am connected to the internet, I receive the following prompt onscreen after about 1 minute online, hence I wrote this in Microsoft word off-line.:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
///////This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

Time before shutdown 00.00XX Message (Usually 1 minute)

Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly//////

It has only happened as from today. Is this a error on my computer or is it something else? ? Internet related?, And does ANYONE ELSE get these messages?

I can ?JUST? about stay online long enough to grab an Email, but by the time I post this through, I will be shut down

Thanks in advance (TIA)

Tony

there are no responses as yet. Try typing RPC error into Google and you will get many hits- I have worked my way through lots of hits but they all seem to refer to " computer based servers ". Still looking though !! : }

Maybe it's a problem from a particular ISP, it's strange that 3 threads have been posted in the last hour or so.

i know several people suffering from same problem....i think the thunder storms may have caused it

Hello,

Just done a Virus Check (AVG) but no virus detected. Mind you, my database is ?Too old? it says, but can?t update it because My computer keeps self destructing after 60 seconds. I can only just get a post in here in that time ? if I?m lucky. Anyway, I?ll try my other PC out later ? that is windows 98 (this is windows XP home)

This is my 8th attempt to make a post (if this one works that is), on Pc adviser. Thanks for all the replies (Copied and pasted them. There no way (of course) that I could do an online Virus test, but don?t think it?s a virus is it?. No thunder round here?..yet, but about ready for some rain after these 10000000 degrees temps (still typing in MS Word BTW) Hey, I hope this is only a temporally thing Right I?ll log on now and send this post through..hopefully!

TIA

Tony

Thanks for all the links etc. But I can?t do updates etc (windows) because my PC just terminates after 1 min (or so), so downloading anything more than 50 KB is a no go (not on broadband BTW, I am on normal freeserve etc). I have (since my above post) had to restart again. Disconnecting before the prompt doesn?t work either IE: I can?t disconnect and keep connecting before I see the prompt, I just keep getting this shut don error.

TIA

Tony (all typed in MS word of course!)
