I was running XP on a P3, installed Linux Xandros as a dual boot, subsequently tried to remove it, tried to re-install XP, had an accidental power-off three-quarters of the way through, got a blue creen of death saying "bad hal.dll", replaced the HDD inserted the XP disk and tried to re-install.

Diodorus, I downloaded the DiskWizard utility but the remove the ddo option was greyed out.

BTW, why would replacing the HDD result in XP failing to boot?
