I would like to know if Windows Defender has EVER found a problem for anyone. It is an integral part of Vista and updates on an almost daily basis, but to my knowledge has never shown even the slightest inkling of detecting any malware.
Agree never known it throw up a message saying it has detected anything.
I disabled it after three months - it slowed the system down, and never appeared to do anything apart from endlessly update.
Never: even when I managed to catch one of those fake antivirus nasties a year or so back.
Same here its never detected anything and is now turned off
Disabling it may be a positive step forward.Does it still update?
In a word - No
I use Defender, windows firewall and Avast Free.Nothing else and I have no problems, so I suppose it must be doing something, although, like all of you, it has never enlightened me with it's presence. One thing which intrigues me though is your comment about it updating daily. I have mine set to notify me first and it certainly doesn't do it daily. It can sometimes be a month between updates.
Nothing in 18 months. Handy for the Software Explorer though.
yes, a few months ago pop up a warning about a web page. where norton failed to do so nor any spyware.
I just checked window Defender updates for the last couple of weeks. They were 21,24,26,31 March and 03, 06 April
