Hi, my sister got a new laptop, i said put avg free version on it but it says it already has windows defender on it, is it better to turn that off and run avg or can they run along side each other ?

Disable defender, and go with AVG 8. Defender is a very very poor defence indeed.

Your choice, of course, and that`s as it should be, but may I recommend Avast! 4.8 which runs perfectly well alonside Windows Defender?

I find windows defender a poor substitute for protection AVG is, IMO one of the best free protection, particulary version 8's comprehensive protection.

Not had a problem for years running

Defender as a real time scanner and Superantispyware as a backup scanner which never seems to find anything therefore I assume defender is doing its job.

Windows defender here Not the greatest review that I have ever seen. But sort of sums it up for me.About 50% like it and 50% don't.Not great odds.
