Each time I restart my computer Windows Defender is shown as "turned off". After turning on a notice states -
"A System change was made by a Program File\Windows Defender\MpCmclRun.exe"

How do I stop this so that Defender is always on. A am running on XP Home Edition.

If you go into `Tools>Options` ensure `Use Real Time Protection` is ticked. You should be logged on as Administrator (or have the privileges) to do this.

If you read the Helpfile (click the `?`) there is a lot more information.

John please do not duplicate your thread click here

Did you follow Butemans advice using MSCONFIG ?

You could uninstall Defender and reinstall and see if this cures the problem.

Uninstall defender via Control Panel and add and remove programs.

Then run ccleaner click here and/or Winaso click here Regopt version (trial)

Reboot

Reinstall Defender from click here
